Worried about being able to play GW
Hey guys I was recently browing over the GW system requirments and I realized that I may not be able to play Guild Wars very well, if at all...
I've got:
AMD Athlon 64 Bit 3500+ @2.2 GHZ 1000 FSB
eVGA Nvidia Geforce 6800 GT 256 MB
1024 Kingston PCI 3200
Will I be able to handle GW?

Well the only reason I got the 3200+ amd 64 is because I got 2.
So there. I have 5 computers plus one server in my house.
So I have you beat.....
I have a 2 21" sony e540
1 21" dell LCD
1 19" dell LCD
1 20" sun system that cost $25 at a junk yard
and I use onboard sound because I think that all the add in cards just suck, they have bad drivers.
A comcast pro acct. with a smc 8 port switch on a motarola cable modem.
plus a 2.8 p4 laptop.
NO WORRIES.

Fine, here's my computer
Mac G4 1.5 Ghz512 L2 and 4 meg L3 cache
Radeon 8500 64 meg of video ram
1.25 gigs of RAM
3 usb ports
2 firewire ports
300 gig of hard drive
OS X 10.3.8
You all have no idea how badly I wish they would hurry to making GuildWars on the mac platform But I doubt I will ever see it really. Unix is supreme with the internet, and I am lucky if there are 100 viruses I have to worry about on that machine. And almost no spyware concerns either. Just from a security perspective it is absolutely a dream to have and use. Nothing better than getting that email virus that doesn't affect your computer and being able to notify your isp and others about it.

Not true. I have had more problems, fixed more pc problems with my neighbours than I can even believe. My machine is 6 years old and still they have to come to me to get this or do that. Seriously I could never have done better than going with a mac. RISC processors make me drool. I have 1 pc and 9 macs to put it in perspective and in my hey day being able to bypass the mac os when no one else could those machines paid for quite a bit.

The risc processer is great but the alpha that amd bought is better. That is just my opinion. The only reason I say that is because I feel that it is more scaleable. I just whish they would use a real cpu for the graphics gpu. And the risc would be very good for that.
Maybe one day my dream of a 1.5 ghz. ati card will come true.

"better" is a matter of perspective. The G5 chips just keep getting the innovations of IBM substrate R&D added to them. IBM is the only reason we still use hard drives because they keep breaking their substrate density record.
I look at the G5 and it's built in water cooled duel 64bit Risc processors and it is like looking at perfection for me. And you can't even hear the machine when its on, with 5 fans going inside. The first ones weren't as nice as now. Oh and the operating system, unix, uses the processors perfectly in multi tasking, in fact with a small script you can chain 128 or more of them together as one multi tasked cpu which works with the os perfectly because they are made for and around each other. I like an OS that isn't made up of pieces based on what information they had on all the different bios and motherboard known at the time the cd was pressed. Considering the U.S. Army went to Macs with OS X for their hubs because of hacking, I can't even feel more secure on a PC no way, no how. Just saying they have alot of good going for them and the whole battling over the machines is just childish.
*Edit* Schools tend to not buy for gamers But I can say with certainty the mac works just fine for gaming, so long as the company didn't just try to do a shlock job making the mac version. They tend to just throw something together because they have the same "technology bias." In fact it is this bias that has lead to others not thinking the machines are worthwhile. The lousy software developers who just can't stand they have to make more than one version. What do you think is hurting linux? Same thing. It makes me sick because it isn't any less than racism or any other bias when you look at an open world with people and their choices based on what works for them.

I think Macs look very nice, and they seem very good for an adult or college student... but for a gamer... one must admit, they are seriously lacking.
Plus, the only experience I have with them is at school... and boy are they slow.

I will NEVER EVER start with a mac user again. They do love them. To bad they are in the super minority.

So you know, that 1 pc I have I built 6 months ago for one reason--GuildWars. I am hoping when they want to try other platforms I can maybe help with the Mac Client somehow, testing it would be great because I'll be used to the PC version so have an idea of what might need tweaking, etc.
And yea, sorry, we do love em. Being a programmer I tend to like all computers though. This PC I expected worse of but then I found out about talatin processors and found that special engine that would make it work for me. I mean, my 1.3 ghz celeron has a 256k L2 cache. Though the clock is slower than many of the newer celerons they have 128, which is shocking to me. If they hadn't discontinued development of the talatin core, Celerons today wouldn't be P4s that didn't make the spec. They'd be their own engine.
